Expect about an hour at the border control. If you plan on renting a car for the trip, make sure you get the right documents needed from your car rental company-you'll need permission to cross the border with the car as well as an insurance that is valid in Argentina. Since you'll be crossing borders, make sure to have your passport and documents ready. Options include private transfer, rental car, or bus, and the trip takes 4-6 hours without stops. You'll be crossing from Chilean Patagonia to the Argentinian side on Route NR40, passing Torres del Paine National Park on the route. Traveling from Puerto Natales to El Calafate, the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, is a 170-mile (270 km) journey.
